Get ready for Playday 2012!
As the country braces itself for London 2012, hundreds of communities are also getting ready for the biggest event in the play calendar! Playday 2012 will be celebrated across the UK on Wednesday 1 August and throughout the summer, with an expected 500 events taking place to celebrate children’s right to play. Join in the fun with these last-minute ideas for getting involved:
- In Milton Keynes, MKPA are celebrating all summer long at their play sessions and with two fantastic events on the day itself! If you work with children and young people, why not make your summer events part of the UK-wide Playday celebrations? Contact us for Playday goodies to help you celebrate and don’t forget to register your event on the Playday website.
- If you’re looking for simple, low cost ways to celebrate, these fun ideas can be done at home or in your setting. Normal household items can be turned into anything with a bit of imagination, your household play kit might consist of: flour and water for some messy play, cardboard boxes and old sheets for den building, newspaper and wallpaper paste for silly sculptures, old clothes and hats for dressing up, potatoes and paints to make your own stamps, pots and pans for music making! Check out Playday organisers’ top tips on creating a playful celebration.
- Help children discover nature on Playday! Whether you’re a parent or carer, or work with children and young people, head to your nearest woodland or forest on Playday and see what nature has to offer! How many different trees can you name and climb? How many flowers can you name and who can make the best smelling perfume? Can you spot and draw different butterflies and birds? The brilliant nature detectives have lots of resources to get you started.
Big or small, whatever you do to celebrate, what’s most important is that we all do something and help make sure children can get out and play on Playday and all year through. Check out more hints and tips on the Playday website and show you Love Outdoor Play this summer!
