These were a few of my favourite things

Unchaperoned cycling adventures and swimming in rivers

Adult-free exploring of graveyards and bomb shelters that gave us the shivers

Going out with older brothers to find conkers to string

These were a few of my favourite things.

Heading out all day with the ‘street gang’ and only heading home as it got dark

Walking alone to meet the others down the road or at the park

Making the journey to school with friends when we would talk, shout and sing

These were a few of my favourite things.

Having secret places and hangouts that adults didn’t know about

Being allowed to learn from our mistakes and to trust in our own doubt

Travelling with friends into ‘the city’ and being allowed to spread our wings

These were a few of my favourite things.
